And now for the drum roll. We are going to put together a page or two, or maybe a painting on a canvas if you like with a face in color in it. I would like you to pull out your assignment from the chaco and gesso drawing, something you would like to work with. You and add to that, or you can try to recreate it on a canvas, or use it as a part of your collage on a canvas. I think it might be clearer when you watch my video.
I used my girl I created on a large piece of mixed media paper, and colored her in and put a collage over her. But you can start with a collage if you like, or instead of a collage, use a stencil, or just play with colors around her face. Try to create a story that would complete her face or expression.
Part one – coloring her face, playing with different colors.
Part 2, Playing with colors, but also building a journal page around a face. Sometimes you would like to tell a story with a simple collage to add to the meaning in the expression of the face. I have speeded up the video, so that it would not be so long.
The colors I was using were a combination of liquid and heavy body acrylics, in Raw siena, Raw Umber, Manganese Blue, Quanachridone Magenta and Paynes Gray. I mixed them with gesso to add tint or Matte medium to add transparency.
Part 3, we are going to complete our journal page, I am adding more ephemera and collage pieces, you can add whatever you like to complete your collage, but you might use some of the techniques.
